Dear readers, I wanted to give you a little glimpse into what we’ve been up to. We decided all of a sudden after getting back from tour that we wanted to put out a new single this year, and so we are working on that. On our return, our heads were filled with music and I rather like the idea of writing a song, recording it and getting it out to you while it’s still as new to us as it is to you. I’ve mentioned the name of the B-side on Twitter. If you missed it, the name is “So Long”. We were recording that a couple of weeks ago with our bassman-in-charge-of-the-mixing-board Charles Murphy. It’s sort of a summer time postcard. The sessions were very relaxed and we tried out a bunch of non-band noises on it. As I write, the first draft of lyrics for the A-side is finished. These two songs couldn’t be more different from each other.
Banded goes on rolling. We’ll be going to Mad Oak Studios at the end of August to begin recording the new song titled “You Will Know”. If you were at our recent acoustic show at the Lilypad you’d have heard it. Must remember to get on writing a brass arrangement for this when we return from Miami. Henry and I have a wedding there this Friday followed by a weekend on the Gulf. Then back to more songs and booking more Fall dates. Another musical jaunt is on the horizon for October.
Oh and in case you missed it, we get a lot of e-mails about that song we open our shows on the last two tours with. The song in question is “The Last Time”. It was originally on Fan The Fury as a bouncy full band number, but the version we did on the road in audiences was on mandolin with hand claps and foot stomps. Well, we’ve got a version of that up and ready for download. Head on over here to check it out.
