I don’t have to tell you guys how much Jen and I love listening to music on vinyl. You all know about our obsession with it (if you don’t, then read this thing I wrote for The Vinyl District back in 2009… it should bring you up to speed), and our recent acquisition of a really nice turntable has only exacerbated our condition.
It should come as no surprise that lately we’ve been talking (albeit idly) about releasing Exile in that beloved format.
I guess I’m trying to get a feel for what you think. We’re casually putting our toes in the water, price shopping and whatnot. Between getting all parts pressed and printed as well as having the record remastered for vinyl, it’d cost us a bit of coin—even for a short run. Gauging what y’all’s interest in buying Exile on vinyl is important.
Getting Exile onto vinyl is something we’ve seriously spoken about several times throughout the recording process, particularly as we got closer to mastering the record. At one point we discussed an option of forgoing CDs altogether and just having Exile solely on vinyl and digital. We even asked Matt Jatkola (of the Bynars, who—by the way—just put an album out last week) to create the artwork at a ridiculously high resolution in the event we had to blow up the sleeve for vinyl. In the end, we opted to press CDs anyway since there would be no space in the van for a crate of 250 12″ LPs, and we’d have to pony up extra money we didn’t have to get it mastered for vinyl.
Anyway, leave us some comments and let us in on your thoughts. If you’re in Camp OMG-I-Want-This-On-Vinyl, let us know if you’d be interested in pre-ordering. If you’re not into the idea at all, let us know why. The thing of it is we need to know if enough people beyond Jen and myself would like to see this happen, and because I have yet to master Mind Readery, we’ll never know unless you tell us. (Thanks to everyone who’s already responded on our zygotic conversation about this on Facebook).
Other happenings on the Aloud front: we finally were able to snag a rehearsal space (and at our old building, no less). We’ll be moving in this week and getting back to playing our instruments after a month of living in the ether. A big hug and a thank you to everyone who sent us leads on spaces. We love you.
We also sent out our first real E-Mail List message through MailChimp. Totally nerdy note to add, but transferring our list to another service has been occupying a significant portion of my life lately. Regardless, MailChimp (so far) has been a pretty cool service that’s already made it easier for us to communicate with you kids.
Also, giant congratulations to Hugh and Anne on the latest addition to the Wyman brood. The little guy was holding out for an extra week, but the forces of nature have proven to be much too strong.
Alright, muchachos. Talk to you soon. And seriously, vinyl and such… comment below.
Henry
